Top 6 Online Resources

The world of Qlik never stands still. Especially since Qlik introduced a two-week release cycle with Qlik Cloud, there's almost always something new to see every time you open Qlik. On top of that, Qlik's capabilities are also very extensive, especially in the area of ETL scripting and visualization. So it's no wonder that as a Qlik user, you sometimes lose track. Fortunately, there are many different resources available online where you can find the latest news or the solution to your problem. We asked our colleagues which resources they use a lot to get Qlik information, so we can share them with you too.

#1 The Qlik Community

One of the absolute strong points of Qlik is the Qlik community. You'll find this community at community.qlik.com, but honestly, you often end up on this page via Google. And not without reason. The Qlik community has been very active for years and is therefore full of problems and their solutions. You'll also often find posts from some gurus in the Qlik world on this community, such as this classic by Henric Crönström (aka HIC) on the As-Of Table.

If your question hasn't been answered on the Qlik community after all, you can of course still ask it. In our experience, you'll usually get an answer within a few days, and usually with a good solution or direction to think in.

Finally, you'll also find the “Design blog” on the community, where Qlik employees present all kinds of different applications of Qlik.

#2 QlikView Cookbook

This blog is written by another superstar in the Qlik firmament: Rob Wunderlich. Rob is one of the initiators of the Qlik Master Summit and has been writing about Qlik since 2008. You'll find his blogs at qlikviewcookbook.com. In his blogs, you'll find all kinds of advanced tips and tricks for writing scripts and expressions, optimizing the performance of your dashboards, and using handy tools. The “Recipes” page in particular is interesting – here you'll find ready-made “recipes” for solving common challenges in Qlik.

#3 Data on the Rocks

Data on the Rocks is a blog where various bloggers come together. Here you'll find, for example, blogs by Christophe Brault (Daily Qlik Challenge), Patrick Trehubujuluw, and Karl Pover (Harvesting Wisdom). Thanks to the large team of experienced bloggers from the Qlik world, new publications appear on this blog very regularly, and almost every angle is covered. Especially when it comes to newer features, such as Application Automation, the Insight Advisor, and Advanced Analytics.

#4 Michael Tarallo on LinkedIn

Michael “Mike” Tarallo is a very well-known voice to many people in the Qlik world. That's because Mike does the voice-overs for many of Qlik's marketing videos. It's worth following Mike on LinkedIn, as he regularly posts his own new videos announcing or explaining new features. He also regularly points to other interesting content produced by various Qlik employees. The “Saas in 60” video series is especially handy. In this video series, Mike shows a new feature in Qlik Cloud in 60 seconds. The ideal way to get fully up to date again during a short break!

#5 Ometis

Ometis is one of the largest Qlik Consultancy companies and also regularly publishes blogs on their site. Especially nice are the monthly “What's new in Qlik Cloud” blogs, in which the writers at Ometis round up all the big and small new features released over the past month. This makes it a lot easier to stay up to date with the changes in the Qlik Cloud platform.

#6 The Qlik Help Page

It might seem a bit obvious to mention this one, since you probably already knew about it. Still, the Qlik help page is a very strong addition to your Qlik reading diet. These help pages contain descriptions of all functions, settings, and objects in the Qlik ecosystem. The nice thing about these help pages is that they always include examples of how to use, for instance, that one script command. Did you know, by the way, that you can open the help page directly from the script editor? You do this by clicking the ? in the bar at the top and then clicking on the piece of script you want to know more about.

Bonus: WTF Visualizations

Sometimes you get completely stuck and aren't quite sure how to visualize an insight. Of course, you can then turn to the insight advisor for inspiration, but sometimes it also helps to see how it shouldn't be done. On viz.wtf, anyone who comes across a bad visualization can submit it, after which it ends up on the site's now almost endless “wall of shame.” Not necessarily Qlik related, but every now and then it's okay to have a laugh!
