Movie tickets, popcorn and soft drink purchases, and the most popular films in pre-sale. It's just a sample of the data that Pathé would like more insight into. Together with E-mergo, the largest cinema chain in the Netherlands is therefore currently working intensively on data warehouse TimeXtender and BI tool Qlik Sense. An additional challenge was that both the old and new checkout systems had to be connected to it. Naturally, without cinema visitors noticing anything at all.
The sky was the limit! But then came corona.
Rick Stammes has been a data analyst at Pathé since 2017. Together with a large team, he had already been working on an ambitious data strategy for some time. “With external consultants and data scientists, we were already quite far along in predicting visitor numbers and making suitable recommendations for moviegoers. The sky was the limit! But then came corona.” Cinema halls emptied out, revenue dried up, and the external team had to stop the project. “My role changed then,” says Stammes. “We didn't want to lose the knowledge we had gained, and wanted to carry out the data strategy with a small team after all.
The Result
2 checkout systems
Data from 2 checkout systems is processed in one central place in TimeXtender. This way, no one notices the switch from one system to the other.
Near real-time
TimeXtender sends near real-time data to Pathé's All Stars app for visitors. This is used to award earned loyalty points to visitors.
Getting hands-on themselves
Through training and coaching, Pathé's data specialists can expand and maintain TimeXtender themselves.
“E-mergo's TimeXtender appealed to us because you don't need a lot of technical knowledge to work with it. You don't have to code yourself, but you can drag tables and indicate the relationship between data.”
